If you’ve got a large-frame FN pistol and find the factory magazine release a bit too small or stiff to hit cleanly under pressure, this extended single-sided mag release is a practical fix. It’s a direct drop-in replacement for the original part, giving you a longer, angled button that’s easier to find and press without shifting your grip. The result? Faster, more reliable magazine changes, especially when you’re wearing gloves or shooting one-handed. It’s machined from bar stock steel, heat-treated, and finished in black oxide for durability—no plastic, no shortcuts.

Install difficulty: 2 out of 5
This is a straightforward swap. You’ll need a punch to drift out the factory retaining pin, and a small bench block or a piece of wood to support the frame while you tap the old release out and the new one in. If you’ve changed a magazine release on an FN 509, this is the same process—we’ve linked the install video on the product page to walk you through it step by step.
Frequently asked questions
Will this work on my FN 509?
No. This release is specifically for large-frame FN pistols (FNX-45, FNP-45, FNX-40, FNP-40, and the large-frame FNX/FNP 9mm models). The 509 uses a different mag release design.
I’m left-handed. Can I use this?
Yes. This is a single-sided release that you can order for either left-hand or right-hand operation. Just select your preference when adding to cart. It does not swap sides after installation—you pick the side you shoot from and install it that way.
Do I need to modify the frame or the magazine to make it fit?
No. It’s a direct drop-in replacement for the factory mag release. No filing, sanding, or frame modification required. If it doesn’t drop in smoothly, check that you’ve got the correct orientation and that the retaining pin is fully seated.
