If you own a Smith & Wesson SD VE or SD model pistol, you already know the factory hinged trigger leaves a lot to be desired. That gritty, long pull can make it tough to shoot accurately, especially when you’re just trying to have a good range day. This flat-faced action enhancement kit swaps out that original hinged trigger for a solid body, flat-faced polymer trigger with a center-mounted pivoting safety. The result is a much cleaner, more predictable break that makes it easier to stay on target without fighting the trigger the whole time.

What you get with this kit
- Drops pull weight about 2 lbs – makes that double-action-only stroke a little lighter and more manageable for everyday shooters.
- Reduces pre-travel and overtravel – less wasted movement before the break, and a shorter reset after the shot.
- Smoother pull, better reset – the kit polishes up the sear surfaces and replaces the trigger bar’s contact points, giving you a consistent feel every time.
- Maintains factory safety values – all the drop-safety and trigger-block features stay intact. No corners cut on safety.
- Flat-faced trigger with pivoting safety – gives you a more natural finger placement and a solid, non-hinged shoe.
Install difficulty: 2 out of 5
This is a drop-in kit for the most part. You’ll need a punch set, a small hammer, and maybe a pick to drift out the trigger pin. Plan on about 20–30 minutes if you’ve done a trigger swap before. First-timers should allow an hour and watch the included install video (linked in your order confirmation). No special tools beyond basic gunsmith punches.
Common questions
Will this work in my SD9 VE with the thumb safety?
Yes. The kit is compatible with both standard SD VE frames and those with the factory manual thumb safety. The trigger bar geometry is the same.
Does this kit include a new trigger bar or just the shoe?
The kit includes a new trigger shoe with the pivoting safety, a sear spring, and a polished trigger bar. You’re replacing the entire trigger assembly, not just the shoe.
Is the pull weight still safe for carry?
Yes. It reduces pull weight by about 2 lbs from the factory 8–9 lbs, landing around 6–7 lbs. That’s still a heavy enough pull for safe handling, but much more shootable for range work or home defense.
