Fully Machined Sear

This Fully Machined Sear is a drop-in replacement part designed to clean up the trigger feel on Smith & Wesson M&P pistols. It was the first aftermarket part ever made for the M&P line, and it still does exactly what it was built to do: reduce trigger pull weight, shorten over-travel, and sharpen the reset. If your factory trigger feels gritty or has too much mush after the break, this sear addresses both issues without needing any fitting or gunsmith work. It’s the same component we use in our complete trigger kits, but it works great as a standalone upgrade if you want a lighter, crisper pull without swapping out the whole trigger shoe.

Install difficulty

Difficulty: 2 out of 5 — medium. You’ll need a 1/16” punch, a small hammer or mallet, and a clean workbench. The sear is held in by a single pin, but you’ll need to remove the slide and takedown the frame to access the fire control group. Plan on about 20–30 minutes if you’ve done it before, maybe 45 minutes if it’s your first time. We recommend watching the install video on our site before you start — it’ll save you from chasing a spring across the garage floor.

Short FAQ

Will this work with the factory trigger shoe?

Yes. This sear is designed to work with the factory M&P trigger shoe. You don’t need to change the shoe to feel the improvement, though pairing it with a flat-faced trigger will give you a shorter reach and a more consistent finger placement.

Does this sear affect reliability?

In our experience, no. The sear geometry is optimized for a cleaner break and shorter reset, but it still meets the same safety margins as the factory part. We’ve tested it in thousands of rounds across multiple M&P models with no light strikes or hammer follow issues.

Can I install this sear in a Shield without changing the housing?

Yes. The Shield uses a different sear housing block, but this sear drops into the factory housing without modification. Just make sure you’re working with the correct housing for your generation — the M2.0 Shield housing has a slightly different spring layout than the original Shield.
