We’ve seen it happen more than a few times at the range — a shooter with a perfectly good FN 509 suddenly gets a stuck case, a double-feed, or a round that just won’t chamber right. More often than not, the culprit is the factory extractor. This Failure Resistant Extractor for the FN 509 is built to solve exactly that. It replaces the stock extractor with a much stronger, heat-treated stainless steel part that keeps its hook geometry consistent round after round. The result is more reliable feeding, extraction, and ejection — especially if you shoot a lot, shoot dirty ammo, or run your gun hard.
Will This Fit My FN 509?
- FN 509 (all 9mm models — standard, Compact, LS Edge, Midsize, etc.)
- FN 509 Tactical
- FN 509 MRD
- Does not fit .40 S&W or .45 ACP variants
- Does not fit FN FNS or FNX series
Key Features
- Billet stainless steel construction — machined from solid heat-treated bar stock, not MIM (metal injection molded) like the factory part
- Wire EDM cut hook geometry — the critical engagement surface is cut with a wire electrical discharge machine for a precise, repeatable shape that grabs the case rim consistently
- Improved feeding reliability — the extractor plays a huge role in how the round feeds from the magazine; this component helps prevent nose-dives and chambering issues
- Drop-in fit for 9mm 509s — no fitting or filing required; you just swap it in
Install Difficulty: 2 out of 5
Tools needed: A small punch (1/16″ or 1.5mm), a non-marring hammer or nylon punch, and a clean workspace. You’ll remove the slide, drift out the extractor pin, swap the old extractor and spring, then reinstall the pin. If you’ve ever changed an extractor on a striker-fired pistol, this will feel familiar. First-timers can follow along with our install video — it takes about 10 minutes.
Short FAQ
Will this fix my FN 509’s failure-to-eject problem?
It’s the most common fix we recommend. If you’re getting stovepipes, weak ejection, or cases getting hung up, the factory extractor hook is often the issue. This part has a much sharper, more aggressive hook profile that holds the case rim securely until the ejector kicks it out.
Does it come with a new extractor spring?
Yes, the kit includes a new extractor spring and pin. We always suggest replacing the spring when you swap the extractor — it’s cheap insurance and makes the whole system work like new.
Do I need to tune or adjust anything after install?
No tuning required. It’s a direct replacement. Just make sure the extractor moves freely in its channel, and that the firing pin safety plunger moves up and down as it should. If it’s snug, a drop of oil on the plunger interface helps.
