If you shoot a Smith & Wesson M&P pistol, you know the factory loaded chamber indicator sticks up into your sight picture. It’s a bright orange or red tab that can pull your eye off the front sight at the worst possible moment. This low profile loaded chamber indicator replaces that factory part with a clean, flush-fitting component that stays out of your sight line. You still get tactile confirmation that a round is chambered — even in total darkness — but without the visual distraction. It’s a simple swap that makes your gun feel more like a dedicated competition or range pistol.

Key features
- No sight picture interruption – The low profile design sits flush with the slide so you don’t see it when aiming.
- Tactile-only feedback – No paint, no letters. You feel the raised ridge with your finger to confirm a loaded chamber.
- Works in low light – Because it’s tactile, you can check chamber status without looking or using a light.
- Precision machined steel – CNC’d from bar stock for a snug, rattle-free fit.
- Melonite finish – Tough, corrosion-resistant surface that matches the factory slide finish.
- Direct replacement – Uses the same spring and roll pin as the factory part. No fitting required.
Install difficulty: 2 out of 5
You’ll need a 1/16-inch punch and a small hammer. Drive out the factory roll pin, remove the old indicator, drop in this one, and reinstall the pin. It takes about five minutes. We have a short install video linked on the product page if you want to see it done first.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work with the M&P 2.0?
Yes. The M&P 2.0 uses the same loaded chamber indicator assembly as the original M&P. This replacement fits all generations of the M&P full-size and compact frames.
Will it change the feel of the slide release or safety?
No. This part only replaces the loaded chamber indicator on the top of the slide. It doesn’t interact with the slide stop, thumb safety, or any other controls.
Do I need to remove the rear sight to install it?
No. The loaded chamber indicator is held in by a roll pin that sits behind the ejection port. You don’t need to remove the rear sight or any other part of the slide.
