If you’ve been looking to mount a modern red dot like the Aimpoint® Acro or an enclosed MPS-style optic on your Smith & Wesson revolver, you know the top strap can be a tricky spot. This optic mount is a machined aluminum plate designed to replace the adjustable rear sight on your revolver, giving you a rock-solid platform for your optic without permanent modifications. It solves the problem of trying to co-witness or clamp onto a round barrel shroud—this mounts directly to the flat of the top strap, keeping your optic low and centered over the bore. No drilling, no tapping, just a direct swap of your rear sight assembly.

Key Features
Made from billet aluminum with a matte black finish, this mount is built to handle the recoil of magnum loads without shifting. It replaces your rear sight blade and spring assembly, using the existing dovetail and windage screw holes. The optic sits low enough to co-witness with your front sight on most models, and the mount includes stainless steel screws and a thread-locker recommendation. No gunsmith fitting required on standard frames—just remove your rear sight, install the mount, and torque to spec.
Install Difficulty: 2 out of 5
You’ll need a small flathead screwdriver (for the rear sight windage screw), a 1/16″ punch or small allen key (for the sight retention pin), and a torque wrench (inch-pounds) if you want to be precise. Most home mechanics can do this in 15 minutes. Watch our install video on the product page for the exact steps on your frame size. No filing or drilling required on standard K, L, N, or X-Frames.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my Smith & Wesson Model 686 Plus?
Yes, if your 686 Plus has the factory adjustable rear sight (the screw-adjustable blade), this mount will replace it. It fits both 6-shot and 7-shot L-Frames. Just make sure you have the standard top strap—no full-length scope rail.
Do I need to remove my front sight?
No. This mount replaces only the rear sight assembly. Your front sight stays in place and will co-witness with the red dot on most models. If you want a taller front sight for a lower 1/3 co-witness, that’s a separate upgrade, but not required for the mount to work.
Can I still use my factory rear sight after installing this?
No—this mount permanently replaces the rear sight blade and spring. You cannot swap back and forth without reinstalling the original parts. However, the mount does not modify your frame in any way, so you can return to factory sights if you keep your original parts.
