If you’ve wanted to add a red dot to your Smith & Wesson revolver but didn’t want to send the gun off for expensive milling, this optic mount is the straightforward solution you’ve been looking for. It’s designed specifically to attach a Holosun 509T (or any optic with that same footprint) directly to the top strap of your S&W revolver—no permanent modifications, no drilling, no special tools. This mount lets you keep the classic lines of your revolver while getting the speed and accuracy of a modern enclosed emitter sight.
Will this fit my revolver?
This mount is made for Smith & Wesson revolvers with an adjustable rear sight. It fits the following frame sizes:
- K-Frame
- L-Frame
- N-Frame
- X-Frame
Important: The mount replaces the adjustable rear sight assembly. It will not fit fixed-sight models or J-Frames.
Key features
- Solid aluminum construction – Machined from billet aluminum and hardcoat anodized for long wear and resistance to holster wear or weather.
- Pre-threaded screws – The included stainless steel screws come with a factory-applied thread locker patch. No messing with liquid thread locker, and they won’t back out under recoil.
- Secure fit – The mount locates into the existing rear sight dovetail and uses the factory screw holes. Once installed, it’s rock solid.
- Made in Arizona – Both the mount and the screws are manufactured by the same shop in Peoria, Arizona.
Install difficulty
Difficulty: 2 out of 5 – This is a simple swap if you’re comfortable with small screws. You’ll need a small flathead screwdriver (or a 1/16” punch) to drift out the rear sight assembly, and a #6 Torx or standard hex driver for the mount screws. The whole job takes about 10 minutes. We have an install video linked on the product page that walks you through it.
Frequently asked questions
Does this mount work with any Holosun 509T model?
Yes, this mount fits the standard Holosun 509T footprint. That includes the 509T, 509T X2, and any other optic that uses the same mounting pattern. If your optic uses a different footprint (like RMR or DPP), this mount won’t work without an adapter plate.
Will this mount hold zero with heavy .357 loads?
Yes. The mount is machined from solid aluminum and the screws are heat-treated stainless steel with a thread locker patch. We’ve tested these on N-frame and X-frame revolvers with full-power .357 Magnum loads, and they hold zero without shifting. The mount sits low and tight to the top strap, so there’s no leverage to work it loose.
Do I need to remove the rear sight completely?
Yes, the mount replaces the factory adjustable rear sight. You’ll remove the rear sight blade and its base. The mount uses the same screw holes and dovetail. You can keep the factory sight in a parts box if you ever want to return the gun to stock—the installation is fully reversible.
