If you’re shooting a Smith & Wesson SD, SDVE, or Sigma pistol, you already know the factory hinged trigger leaves a lot to be desired. It’s mushy, inconsistent, and makes it hard to shoot tight groups. This Action Enhancement Trigger replaces that hinge mechanism with a solid, center-mounted pivoting safety design. The result is a cleaner break, less wasted movement, and a trigger pull that actually feels like it’s connected to the gun. It’s one of the most straightforward upgrades you can make to get your M&P-family pistol feeling more like a purpose-built shooter rather than a budget defensive tool.
Will this fit my gun?
- Smith & Wesson SD9
- Smith & Wesson SD40
- Smith & Wesson SDVE (all calibers)
- Smith & Wesson Sigma (all calibers, including .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 SIG)
- Does not fit M&P or Shield series pistols
What this trigger does for you
- Reduces pull weight roughly 10-15% — you’ll notice it right away, especially if you’re used to the stock hinge
- Cuts pre-travel by about 20% — less slack before the wall, so you stay on target
- Reduces over-travel by about 10% — the trigger stops sooner after the break, helping you reset faster
- Center-mounted pivoting safety — keeps the factory safety values intact, so you’re not sacrificing reliability for feel
- Can be installed alone or paired with the appropriate spring kit for even more improvement
Install difficulty: 2 out of 5
This is a solid intermediate job. You’ll need a punch set, a small hammer or mallet, and a bench block or something similar to support the frame. There’s a good install video here that walks you through every step. Plan on about 30-45 minutes if it’s your first time. If you’ve swapped a trigger before, you’ll be done in 15.
Frequently asked questions
Will this work with my stock springs?
Yes, this trigger is designed to work with factory springs. You’ll still get the pre-travel and over-travel reduction. If you want the full weight reduction benefit, you’ll also want to install the matching spring kit.
Does this change the trigger safety?
No. The center-mounted pivoting safety maintains all factory safety values. The trigger still won’t drop the striker unless the safety is depressed, just like the stock hinge trigger.
I have a Sigma from the early 2000s — will it fit?
Yes, this trigger fits all Sigma pistols, including the older frames. The Sigma and SDVE share the same trigger geometry, so you’re good.
